If the space is called "Bluesky", the implicit assumption is that the Bluesky company is the centre of gravity. The authority, the arbiter, the thing that could disappear and take everything with it. That framing runs directly counter to the democracy and decentralisation that AT Protocol is purporting to offer. The whole point is social spaces that can outlast any single actor (including its originators).

I get @renderg.host's point here, but to respond directly to this part... yes, bsky owns their own namespace of app.bsky which is the most popular microblogging flavour.

If I were @mu.social, or someone wanting to re-imagine microblogging, or making a lexicon that interops nicely with Mastodon-defined microblogging, I'd make a different lexicon. And yes, I'd figure out a way to interop and show up on bsky app flavoured surfaces as well as elsewhere.

The biggest growth is outside of microblogging. We can just wrap lexicons. For now we call them apps, and the Atmosphere is the next step that explains interop, but I think attempting ANOTHER name for "atproto posts that can be across many apps" is not a battle we need to fight right now.
